NOVEMBER 28 | 15:00

Holodomor Remembrance Day

On Saturday, 28 November, we invite you to Ukraine House in Denmark to come together in remembrance of the victims of the Holodomor of 1932–1933.

The Holodomor, meaning “death by hunger”, was a man-made famine caused by the policies of the Soviet regime that took the lives of millions of Ukrainians. Each year, Ukrainians around the world light candles to honour those who were lost and preserve the memory of one of the darkest chapters in Ukraine’s history.

At Ukraine House, we will mark the day through remembrance, art and community.

Programme

15:00 | Children’s candle-making workshop
Children and families are invited to make wax candles that will later be lit together during the commemoration.

15:00 | Special guided tour of NAÏV: Visions of Ukraine
For adults, we will offer a guided tour of the exhibition focusing on works and artists connected to the history and memory of the Holodomor.

16:00 | Prayer and candle-lighting ceremony
We will come together for a joint prayer led by Father Vasyl Tykhovych, followed by the lighting of candles in memory of the victims of the Holodomor.

16:30 | Baking Bread by Avrora Ogrodnyk
The commemoration will be followed by a presentation of Avrora Ogrodnyk’s book Baking Bread.

Afterwards, we invite everyone to stay for an informal gathering with palianytsia and craft bread baked especially for the occasion.

Candles will be available for guests who do not bring their own.
