One of the central cultural platforms Ukraine House in Denmark has carefully cultivated is Voices of Dignity – a powerful and emotionally resonant series that brings Ukrainian and Danish voices together through poetry and music. Since its inception, this platform has evolved into a key part of the institution's cultural diplomacy, drawing over 500 guests across multiple iterations, including poets, actors, cultural community and political establishment, as well as ambassadors from numerous countries.

The format of Voices of Dignity is unique in its ability to bridge cultures through art. Ukrainian poets perform their work in their native language – a raw and direct articulation of the war's impact – while their texts are simultaneously presented in Danish by some of the country's most celebrated actors, including Ghita Nørby, Sophie Gråbøl, Claes Bang, Mia Lerdam, Esben Smed, and Kirsten Olesen. This bilingual structure, accompanied by music performed by the renowned Ukrainian soloists, musical groups and ensembles, transforms each event into a shared experience, enabling deep cross-cultural empathy and connection.

Overall Impact

As of today, nine Ukrainian authors – Kateryna Kalytko, Iya Kiva, Halyna Kruk, Iryna Tsilyk, Iryna Shuvalova, Oleksandr Mykhed, Myroslav Laiuk, Yaryna Chornohuz and Artur Dron, – have shared their works through the Voices of Dignity platform. The series has consistently demonstrated that even in exile and under siege, Ukrainian voices continue to resist and redefine the narrative of their nation's struggle, while Danish artists and audiences stand in solidarity through the universal language of poetry. Ukraine House continues to work with PEN Denmark and other interested partners to ensure that the Danish translations of the works of the Ukrainian authors for these events have a chance to be published as part of anthologies or as separate texts to reach the wider Danish audience.
