Decolonizing Mindsets for Security in Europe Forum

In spring 2024, Ukraine House in Denmark launched the inaugural Decolonizing Mindsets for Security in Europe forum – a vital event that brought the urgent conversation about Russian colonialism and its global implications to the heart of Copenhagen. Organized in collaboration with the Danish Institute for International Studies and the Embassy of Ukraine in Denmark, the forum convened prominent voices from Denmark, Ukraine, Georgia, Germany, and the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria to explore how Russian imperial legacies fuel modern-day aggression.
Held on April 26, 2024, the forum featured two robust panels examining how disinformation reinforces colonial myths and the ideology of "ruscism" – Russian fascism. Moderated by journalist Niels Ivar Larsen, the panels included influential figures such as Maksym Eristavi, author of Russian Colonialism 101, and Volodymyr Ogryzko, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
On April 25, 2025, Ukraine House convened the second edition focusing on museum reform, academic restructuring, and recognizing Ukraine's distinct cultural identity. The forum featured keynote addresses by the member of European Parliament Rasa Juknevičienė and advanced tangible tools, including the Decolonization Guide for Museums. This second edition reinforced Ukraine House's position as a thought leader in the European decolonial movement and set the agenda for future editions focusing on the role of arts and heritage in protecting democratic societies.
