Copenhagen Architecture Festival (CAFx)

In the summer of 2023 Ukraine House in Denmark took part in the Copenhagen Architecture Festival (CAFx) for the first time. The project "Spaces of Dignity: How Architecture Heals the Wounds of War," hosted by House, showcased Ukrainian architectural resilience and innovation amidst the devastation of war. The exhibition explored how architecture can address both physical and psychological trauma caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, fostering dignity and rebuilding fractured social bonds. Held from June 1 to August 10, 2023 the project included not only exhibits from renowned Ukrainian architectural firms like balbek bureau and Drozdov & Partners, but also highlighted efforts by young architects and activists who, from the outset of the war, designed shelters, 3D-scanned cultural heritage, and organized community initiatives.
The exhibition was complemented by the discussion platform involving Ukrainian and Danish architects, urbanists, policy makers, aiming to inspire sustainable rebuilding solutions. Visited by numerous participants of the World Architecture Congress held in Copenhagen in 2023, "Spaces of Dignity" amplified Ukrainian voices, celebrated Danish contribution to the rebuilding efforts and emphasized architecture’s potential to foster healing and resilience in war-torn communities.
