Vytynanka family workshop: The tree of life

Discover the Ukrainian art of vytynanka – traditional paper-cutting – in a creative, family-friendly workshop inspired by our current exhibition, NAÏV: Visions of Ukraine.

We’ll begin with a short tour of the exhibition, taking a closer look at the colours, motifs and imagery found in works by Ukrainian naïve artists. Using the exhibition as inspiration, we’ll then explore the tradition of vytynanka and create our own paper-cut Tree of Life – a motif deeply rooted in Ukrainian folk culture.

During the workshop, participants can experiment with shapes, patterns and colours and create their own interpretation to take home. No previous experience is needed – just bring your curiosity and creativity!
