SEPTEMBER 2 - 30

Serhii Parajanov Retrospect at Cinemateket

Danish Film Institute's cinema Cinemateket will presents the retrospective celebrating the visionary filmmaker Serhii (Sergei) Parajanov. The August screenings have passed, but you still have the opportunity to watch the legendary films this September.

Parajanov worked between three cultures: Armenian, Ukrainian and Georgian - or as he himself said: “I am an Armenian born in Tbilisi who was imprisoned in Russia for Ukrainian nationalism” – his work was at its heart anti-imperial and grounded in his love for his roots and Ukraine. To this day, Parajanov’s distinct cinematic voice continues to be one of the cornerstones of Ukrainian cinema.

The programme presents newly restored classics alongside special event screenings with introductions, talks and double bills, celebrating one of cinema's most original and influential artists, especially for Ukrainian culture. Be sure to check the schedule for August! We will share the schedule for September soon.
