Copenhagen Democracy Summit

Since 2022, Ukraine House in Denmark has maintained a strong and growing presence at the Copenhagen Democracy Summit—a global forum organized by the Alliance of Democracies to advance democratic values and counter authoritarian threats. Each year, we have brought powerful cultural interventions that connect Ukraine’s struggle for freedom with the broader defense of democracy worldwide.
In 2024, we presented Zhanna Kadyrova’s participatory art project Russian Rocket 2022, simulating missile attacks over peaceful cities to reflect the lived reality of Ukrainians and warn of the global risks of Russian aggression. The project entailed disseminating among the forum's audience stickers picturing russian ballistic missiles that can be placed on public transport windows, creating the illusion of rockets flying over peaceful cities. Participants of the forum were encouraged to shoot videos and photos of the Russian Rocket 2022 and send them to the dedicated Instagram page. The project aims to share the experience of Ukrainians living under the constant threat of missile attacks and to remind the world that if not stopped in Ukraine, the nightmare of russian aggression could become a reality in other countries. Within CDS the delegates were introduced to several videos from the project on screens in the main hall. The videos demonstrated the stickers “flying” over peaceful cities around the world.
In 2025, Ukraine House in partnership with the Alliance of Democracies continued its impactful annual presence at the Copenhagen Democracy Summit. At the entrance, Ukraine House presented a powerful installation by the Ukrainian Infantry: "Democracy stands because the Ukrainian infantry stands." From the main stage, Chairperson Nataliia Popovych called on policy-makers to stand up for truth and invest in Ukrainian culture, noting that over 190 Ukrainian artists, writers, and cultural figures have been killed during Russia's invasion. This marked the fourth consecutive year that Ukraine House brought Ukrainian art and culture to the global audience of the Copenhagen Democracy Summit.
Besides bringing Ukrainian culture to the Summit in 2025, Ukraine House in Denmark continued its tradition of post-CDS reflections in partnership with the Danish Institute for Parties and Democracy and screened “Songs of Slow Burning Earth” as part of this year's artistic intervention.
