The Executed Renaissance: Mykola Zerov and His Era

We invite you to an event dedicated to the “Executed Renaissance” – a generation of Ukrainian artists, poets, writers, and intellectuals who were persecuted by the Stalinist regime. Their work reflects both the cultural flourishing of the 1920s and 1930s and the tragic repressions of the Soviet era that followed.
The event will place special focus on Mykola Zerov, poet, translator, and one of the key intellectual figures of the time, whose birthday this date symbolically marks. Together, we will reflect on the intellectual climate of the era, the challenges faced by cultural figures, and the lasting relevance of the Executed Renaissance for Ukraine today.
We will be joined by Oryslava Bryska is an Associate Professor at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, a lecturer at the Department of Translation Studies and Contrastive Linguistics, and a translator. Her academic research focuses primarily on the life and work of Mykola Zerov, the Ukrainian Neoclassical movement, and the history of Ukrainian literary translation. She is currently preparing an upcoming book dedicated to Mykola Zerov, offering new perspectives on his intellectual and cultural legacy.
