Film Friday: Dad's Lullaby

It took Lesia Diak six years to create this film. Through a slow and careful process, she built close relationships with the protagonists, gained their trust, followed their attempts to start a new life, and wove in her own personal story. The result is a sensitive and deeply humane film that addresses the complexity of trauma and the challenges of fatherhood in times of war.
War veteran Serhiy finds himself drifting away from his family. Haunted by war, he struggles to reconnect with his wife Nadiia and their three sons, Sasha, Artem, and Nikita.
The film takes an unexpected turn when Serhiy turns the camera on the director herself. This reversal opens a space for vulnerable dialogue about love and human relationships, as the filmmaker shares her own experiences of a breakup with another Ukrainian war veteran.
