Ukraine House in Denmark participates in The People’s Summit at Bornholm


Nataliia Popovych, Chairperson of Ukraine House in Denmark and Tetyana Filevska,
Creative Director of Ukrainian Institute are participating in panel discussions and interviews at The People’s Summit at Bornholm on June 15-17th. They will talk about culture as a powerful tool in warfare and cultural exchange as an essential tool in creating bonds between the old and aspiring EU countries.

Ukraine House in Denmark is grateful to the Danish Culture Institute for partnership in enabling the visit to Bornholm and organizing the sessions, as well as the Danish Institute of Parties and Democracies for hospitality of their international scene towards the Ukrainian topics.


Mykhailo Vydoinyk, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Kingdom of Denmark, Oleksandr Sienkevych, mayor of Mykolaiv and some Ukrainian organizations in Denmark will also attend The People’s Summit.

June 15th. 11:30-12:00 Danish Institute of Parties and Democracies will officially open “The International Arena” (A5)

Conversation between the Ukrainian Ambassador Mykhailo Vydoinyk and the Dutch ambassador Nienke Trooster about where democracy is headed, about global trends and developments, and about how we can strengthen and support democracy towards a freer and more equal world.


June 15th. 16:45-17:30 Panel “Culture as a war strategy” at the International Arena (A5).

Nataliia Popovych together with Henriette Borg Reinholdt, Regional director of Danish Cultural Institute, Frederik Rosén, Affiliated Associate Professor, University of Copenhagen and Danish Cultural Institute will discuss how culture can be used both as an aggressor and a peacemaker. They will also explain how crucial it is to acknowledge that there is nothing soft about cultural affairs in times of conflict and crises.


June 15th. 17:45-18:30 at the International Arena (A5) Nataliia Popovych will moderate the talk “Shaping a New Europe”.

Stina Soewarta, Head of Cabinet, European Commission, Camilla Mordhorst CEO for Danish Cultural Institute and Tetyana Filevska, Creative Director of Ukrainian Institute, will reflect on the importance of protecting and strengthening the new European community seen from a cultural, political, and digital point of view.


June 16th. 12:00 – 12:50 Talk at POV International Stage (F29)

The Ambassador of Ukraine in the Kingdom of Denmark, Mykhailo Vydoinyk is participating in a talk on “Europe’s security after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine”.

June 16th. 12:00 – 12:45 Rebuilding Ukraine through Entrepreneurship (H8)

Nataliia Popovych will talk on the panel organized by Dansk Crowdfunding Forening about entrepreneurship and how Denmark and the EU increase their support for entrepreneurship and the rebuilding of Ukraine. The participants will also discuss how collaboration between Ukrainian entrepreneurs, Danish and European businesses, and investors can be strengthened to create a resourceful network and sustainable entrepreneurial culture in Ukraine once the war is won.


June 17th. 11:30 – 13:00 Interview “Who are Ukrainians?” (F25)

Nataliia Popovych will give an interview to Niels Ivar, the journalist from Dagbladet Information about the impact of the war on Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.



June 17th. 13:15-14:00 Conversation with the Ukrainian Ambassador The International Arena (A5)

Together with the Ambassador of Ukraine Mykhailo Vydoinyk Danish Institute of Parties and Democracies will reflect on the changes Ukraine needs to undergo from its pre-war state. The Ambassador will also share his thoughts on what lessons have been learned from the harrowing experiences of war and how can Ukraine evolve and emerge stronger, fostering an environment that promotes economic viability and transparency?

June 17th. 14:00-14:45 Interview “Europe in a time of war”

Europabevægelsen has invited Mykhailo Vydoinyk, the visionary Ukrainian Ambassador to Denmark and Christophe Parisot, the esteemed French Ambassador to Denmark for a talk about the current security situation in Europe. This talk promises to delve deep into critical issues and provide a compelling roadmap towards a more secure and harmonious future. The ambassadors will among other things discuss what is needed to win peace in Ukraine and Europe, and what is the French perspective on European security?

The People's Summit (Folkemødet) is the largest Democracy Festival in Denmark, which takes place every year at the idyllic island of Bornholm.

The festival is the platform for informal meetings and democratic dialogue between civil society, politicians, business, media, universities, and citizens at large.

From June 15th to 17th, Bornholm is transformed into an informal festival site, where all parts of society are invited to participate in the celebration of democracy.
